Your privacy is very important to us. Accordingly, we have developed this Policy in order for you to understand how we collect, use, communicate and disclose and make use of personal information. The following outlines our privacy policy.
We are committed to conducting our business in accordance with these principles in order to ensure that the confidentiality of personal information is protected and maintained.
A Buyer and Seller (or Supplier) agree on a price. The buyer then clicks on the “Make Payment” button. An SA ID number is NOT REQUIRED for the buyer but it is required for the seller. The buyer proceeds to pay for the item as well as the courier fees if delivery was selected. Payment can be made by card or EFT from any participating bank. Shepherd is listed as a company beneficiary with all major South African banks which makes it easy and much more secure. The transaction is then shared with the seller’s cell number or e-mail address.
The buyer will receive a “Secret Key” or pin code by sms if delivery was not selected. This key should be kept until delivery or completion of the service has taken place.
The Seller will receive a notification that we’ve received payment as well as a link via SMS or e-mail. A transaction reference number will also be included, the validity of which can be confirmed by contacting us if needs be. The seller will go through 4 steps to accept the transaction. We will have to verify the identity of the seller against his SA ID number and cell number. If we can’t verify his identity, we will ask for a copy of an ID to be uploaded.
After the seller accepted the transaction, an automated waybill will be created if delivery was selected. The courier collects during office hours and gets the parcel on its way to the buyer. If delivery was not selected because payment was for services like Plumbing or Building or if the buyer and seller decided to use their own delivery method
On delivery or completion, the buyer should check that everything is in order. This is a “Voetstoots” transaction which means that it’s either Yes or No and should happen immediately upon delivery or completion. The buyer then either signs the courier waybill (if Shepherd Delivery was selected) or gives his Secret Key to the Seller which will confirm that payment should proceed.
If accepted, Shepherd releases the reserved payment to the seller - minus our transaction fees. If rejected, the buyer or Shepherd courier simply returns it to the seller and the buyer’s money is refunded after the seller received the item back in the original condition. Cancellation fees will be charged to the buyer.
Easy hey? Right! Now that you know how it works you can put it to the test!

The recipient of the funds pays for the transaction fees and the buyer pays for the courier fees if our courier is used (courier is optional)
Because we have negotiated bulk shipping deals with our courier partner, you get great service, at affordable rates.
You don’t need to draw wads of cash and take the risk of walking around with it in your pocket. You don’t have to meet some stranger somewhere on a street corner.
When the courier driver arrives, you have a couple of minutes to open the parcel and inspect the item before you sign for it. As this is an “As is” sale, you are not allowed to take the item and test it overnight. So you either take it or you don’t. It is up to the courier driver to decide how much time you get to inspect the item. So be nice to him! If you’re not happy, please wrap the item properly again for return to the seller.
Nope. You wouldn’t want your girlfriend to sign for a cellphone when it was actually a Sony Playstation that you bought, now would you?
SO PLEASE HAVE YOUR ID HANDY WHEN THE COURIER ARRIVES!!! HE’LL ASK YOU FOR IT.
Currently? No, not yet. But pretty soon.
Trust me, once you’ve seen how well our service works, you will pretty soon be selling on here too. Also it helps when a refund is required!
Please take pictures of the damage and e-mail it to us at info@paywithshepherd.com. We would really want to know about it so we can have a long hard talk with our couriers. Please re-pack properly and return to the seller so he can claim from his insurance.
Go to www.ram.co.za and type in the waybill number.
Unfortunately we don’t accept other currencies than the South African Rand.
Now why would you want to register more than one account…?
Credit cards and Cheque cards.
The courier delivers during business hours only, so make sure you give the correct delivery address, and make sure you’re there when he delivers.
They say change is good, so Shepherd listened! Our new website flow lets the buyers pay for the shipping as part of the total cost of the transaction. No more confusing calculations or debates on who’s going to pay for the shipping! The buyer wants it, so the buyer pays for it! You can check out our cheap, flat-rate shipping costs on our website with our shipping calculator! Note that if the buyer wants to send the parcel back for some reason, the costs are covered by Shepherd! This is just our way of showing that we are in it with you.
EFT is only available for certain types of transaction where the seller has initiated a transaction with parcel dimensions.
Yes! All holders of South African bank accounts can transact using Shepherd.
You don’t have to waste your time with buyers that say they have the money to pay you, but they actually don’t. If it’s reserved with Shepherd, then the money is there in the bank account waiting for you to send your parcel. You don’t have to meet some stranger on a street corner and hope he brings you the cash, nor do you have to deal with fake EFT payments.
The courier will have a manual waybill on him. Please complete as he tells you to.
We need to make sure you are who you say you are. Remember, we’re trying to get rid of the scamsters here. Oh, and it’s also a FICA requirement.
Currently? No, not yet. But pretty soon.
If you’re selling a cellpone or similar device, make sure it is charged before you send it off. Remember the buyer wants to at least see if it works when it gets to her.
No pets please! You can imagine the look on the courier driver’s face if your pet python was to slither out of the parcel halfway between Joburg and Bloem! Selling your old sofa for R300 to a guy in Put Sonder Water if it’s gonna cost you R500 to get the poor courier driver to move such a massive thing there now also doesn’t make any sense, now does it.
Use your original packing! Use your original packing! And one more time! Use your original packing! Okay, if you really really chucked your original packing, then please please pack it well.
We don’t actually know what you pack in the parcel. Let’s face it, you could say you’re selling some magazines, but then it’s actually some homebrew beer you brewed in your basement! So you’ll understand that it’s difficult for us to insure it properly. That’s why it’s better for you to call your own insurance broker and ask him to insure it for the road!
We’ve asked the buyer to take pictures of the damage and e-mail it to us. We’ll send it to you so you can claim from your insurers. But rest assured, our couriers have committed to move your item with absolute care.
Please check your Dashboard or Transaction status on https://www.paywithshepherd.com after you’ve logged into our site.
Go to www.ram.co.za and type in the waybill number.
Now why would you want to register more than one account…?
You’re just selling something so that shouldn’t cost you much right? We at Shepherd think so too! Only the transaction fee of 3.95% will be deducted from the money you receive after the item was accepted by the buyer. So be sure to include it in the transaction amount you share with the buyer. A small price to pay for a safe and secure transaction! They buyer will pay for the shipping, so no need for you to worry about that!
The courier collects during business hours only, so make sure you give the correct collection address, and make sure you’re there when he collects.
After delivery and acceptance of the parcel by the buyer, it will take a maximum of 2 working days for the money to show in your account.
Yes! All holders of South African bank accounts can transact using Shepherd.
